FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions)
I have roommates, can we each pay with a separate check?

Yes, you can each write a check for the rent.  Your parent can also send a check directly to the office.  The
check does not have to be from the renter's account.  Please make sure the building name and apartment
number are on the check so that it is processed correctly.

Who should I write the check to?

Checks should be made payable to "Prime Housing Group" and mailed to our office address:

1390 East Grand River Avenue, East Lansing MI 48823

Why don't you accept credit cards?

There are processing fees associated with accepting credit card payments.  Unfortunately, these high fees
make it cost prohibitive to accept credit card payments at this time.  You may pay your rent with check, money
order or cashiers check.

What do I need to do to move-in?

You need to pay your first rental payment and security deposit.  Then you need to call the Board of Water and
Light (517-371-6006) to connect your electricity.  They will give you a
request id number that verifies that you
had the power switched into your name.  Bring this request id number with you to the office at check-in - we
cannot check you in without this number.  Only one roommate needs to be present for check-in.  That person
will accept responsibility for all keys and parking passes.  We are open from Noon until 5 pm on Check-in day.

What if I can't move in on Check-In day?

You can check in during regular office hours, which are Monday - Friday, 10 am until 5 pm.  We do not close for
lunch.  Unfortunately, we are not open on the weekend.  Please make arrangements to check in during our
office hours.

Can I move in early?

Unfortunately, we are unable to grant any early move-ins.  There is a very short time between leases, and in
order for us to prepare the apartment for you we need you to move in no earlier than the start date of your
lease.

Check-in is at the office (Cedarview East Apts - 1390 East Grand River Avenue).  If you miss the first day, you
may check in during regular office hours of 10 am until 5 pm, Monday through Friday.

Can I/you store the furniture?

You have rented a furnished apartment, which you acknowledged when you signed the lease.  All of our
furniture will remain in the apartment.  Tenants provide their own beds and desk chairs.  Please do not place
any Prime Housing Group or non-outdoor furniture on the balcony or patio.

What is my best internet option?

We use Comcast high speed internet in our office and it works well.  It's our understanding that most of our
tenants purchase an internet/cable tv package from Comcast (1-800-COMCAST).  AT&T is working on
providing video, voice and data services.  They have installed some new equipment in the area but we're not
sure if it's on-line and available to residents yet.  You can call them directly at 1-800-244-4444 to find out what
they offer.

I have a lot of friends and family helping me move in and I'm bringing a large truck or trailer with my
stuff, what do I do with the extra vehicles?

Our move-in day happens to be the same day as the residence halls move-in day so the town will be very
crowded that day, so pack extra patience.  You may park your vehicle in the parking lot while you are actively
moving (which means you are still unloading stuff from the car, not relaxing and eating pizza).  Once you are
done physically removing stuff from the vehicles, please move them before you sit back and eat your pizza.
Please remember that a lot of people are moving in on the same day and someone else is waiting for that
choice parking spot.

Please do not drive or park on the lawns.

Is renter's insurance really necessary?

It is a very good idea to obtain renter's insurance.  The building insurance does not cover your personal
belongings.  Ask your parents' insurance agent if you can purchase an inexpensive rider on their homeowners
policy.  Or check with you car insurance agent as many insurance companies provide multiple policy discounts.

I heard you charge $25.00 if we disabled our smoke alarm or move our fire extinguisher; why?

Your safety is very important to us.  Disabling a smoke alarm or moving the fire extinguisher (so that it's not
easily accessible) puts your safety at risk.  Disabling a smoke alarm is a fire code violation that can result in a
ticket and huge fines.  So avoid all this hassle and don't mess with your smoke alarms or your fire extinguisher.

What if something is broken in my apartment?

Call the office at 337-1133 and submit a maintenance request.  We take care of maintenance issues Monday -
Friday, 8:30 am - 5 pm.  If you have a maintenance emergency (no heat, lots of water), please call the office at
517-337-1133.  The answering service will answer the call and page the on-call maintenance person.

Are you pet friendly?

We love pets, just not in our apartments.  We have had very bad luck with dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets and
snakes.  Fish in a reasonable sized tank are fine.  Please call the office for clarification.

Can I paint the apartment?

Unfortunately, not everyone is Picasso and we would have too much hot pink paint on the windows, doors,
carpet and such.  Feel free to decorate with removable wall stickers (think Post-It note technology) and fabric.
But don't put fabric over electrical outlets because this is a huge fire hazard.

We want you to enjoy your apartment and we will do everything possible to resolve any problems
you may have.  We do appreciate your patience during the weeks following move-in, since this is
our busiest time of the year.

Please feel free to contact the office with any questions - 517-337-1133 or primehous@aol.com.

We appreciate your business and hope you have a great stay with us!
